SemesterTicket - for Students
All students of Dresden's universities are familiar with it, appreciate it and use it - the SemesterTicket. So they are always mobile without wasting time. And not only in the city of Dresden but also in the Oberelbe Transport Network (VVO). Ticket validity
Depending on the institution the student is enrolled in, the SemesterTicket is the valid student ID card in conjunction with a valid identity card. The simple formula: student ID card + identity card = ticket. SemesterTickets (student ID cards) which are stamped „ungültig als SemesterTicket“ (not valid as a SemesterTicket) or have unauthorised changes or alterations or are laminated, are not valid as travel documents. The ticket is not transferable.
Scope
The SemesterTicket is valid for students of Dresden's universities1 in the Oberelbe Transport Network including the local trains of the Deutsche Bahn AG.Special regulations:
- In addition, the SemesterTicket is valid for the local trains between Prösen Ost and Elsterwerda.
- The SemesterTicket only allows students to use the cable cars in Dresden, the Kirnitzschtalbahn in Bad Schandau, the City-Bus in Meißen and the the narrow-gauge railways free of charge if they have special certification or their SemesterTicket is specially annotated. Students receive this certification if they are able to prove being resident within the commuting area of the above-listed special means of transport (within 800m of the stop; in the case of the cable car this only applies to the upper stations).
- The route Arnsdorf – Bischofswerda can't be used free of charge with the SemesterTicket.
- The SemesterTicket is not valid on the means of public transport which operate on lines or parts of lines which are marked with an asterisk (*) or shown in “grey” or “light green” on the current tariff zone plan.
Regulations which apply to the transportation of bicycles and animals
Each SemesterTicket entitles the holder to take one bicycle or one dog in the Oberelbe Transport Network (VVO) free of charge during the following periods:
- On all means of public transport (busses, trams, local trains etc.) Monday to Friday 07:00 p.m. to 04:00 a.m.
- On busses and trams on weekends and holidays all day
- On ferries where VVO tariff applies all day
For the transportation of bicycles outside the times given above, the Bicycle Transportation Rule applies, in accordance with the VVO tariff (Para. 9, section 2) - see price setting (only available in German) - and is the same as for one-day tickets. For frequent transportation of a bicycle on local transport, a monthly bicycle travel pass is recommended. If travelling with a dog beyond times given above, the VVO tariff applies without restriction (Para. 9, section 3) - see price setting (only available in German). The SemesterTicket does not entitle persons accompanying the holder to travel on the same ticket.
